Mobile phones & driving

Using the mobile phones these days is very important but there are some rules to follow that make it safe because it causes a lot of accidents.

There are good sides and bad sides for any idea. Using the mobile phone in the car is very important for example when someone travels for a long time from are place to another and has no one with him that will be dangerous for him because if anything happens to the car on the road no one can help him and that’s why the phone is important when driving . Similarly if you are in the city and you are stuck in a traffic jam and you have a meeting you can call your secretary to delay it.

These days people use the mobile in the car without any benefit because you can use the phone after you arrive at your place or stop on the road shoulder and talk. Some people use the mobile to kill the time and make the journey short but that makes more problems than benefits.

In fact, using the mobile phone in the car is necessary sometimes That’s in an emergency but I think that it must be banned because everyone will use it without any emergency and if you have an important case you can stop and talk.

Traffic congestion and parking problem in AD

Abu Dhabi is the capital of the UAE, and it has a problem in traffic congestion and parking. I will explain the causes and the solutions of this problem.

The main cause is the population has increased. This is the first cause for traffic and parking problems. Not all people have a car, but in Abu Dhabi every home has more than one car. The second cause is economic development. There are more commercial vehicles .Also, the weather in summer is not helping people to use the cycles for transport. Finally, parking is the big cause of traffic congestion. There are not enough parking spaces for people to park their cars.

On the other hand, the solutions for these problems are as follows. Make sure each building has adequate parking. Each apartment should have parking. Also, improving public transport will help the government to solve the problem. For example increase the number of buses or build a metro to decrease the number of car users. One solution is to raise the age of license holders. In Abu Dhabi most accidents involve young people aged 18 to 24. Finally, the last solution is to improve the existing road system. Like build more bridges, overpasses and underpasses.

In conclusion, the main problem is the parking. And the best solution is to build the parking buildings. Also, improve the public transport like raise the number of buses and build a metro, but I think a metro will cost more and buses are the best idea to solvethe problems.

Age of marriage

The bar chart shows the decrease in the percentage of women aged 15-19 who are married, in 6 Arab countries, over 3-4 decades. The table shows the first age of marriage in 12 Arab countries plus Turkey and Iran.

The most dramatic feature of the bar chart concerns the UAE, where the percentage of 15-19 year old married women plummeted from 57% in 1975 to 8% in 1995. Other massive drops were in Libya, from 40% in 1973 to 1% in 1995 and Kuwait, from 38% in 1970 to 5% in 1996. Egypt, Tunisia and Palestine registered less dramatic falls. The age of first marriage, in the table, showed a range from mid- to late-20s for men and from low- to mid-20s for women.

The outstanding feature of the bar graph is the Palestine because the fallen was 3% in rate from 1967 to 2004. In the table, men and women didn’t married before age 20.5 in all countries.

Hurricanes & Tornadoes

Natural life contains a lot of things that could be dangerous or beneficial for living creatures. For example hurricanes and tornadoes have the similarities and differences in their characteristics.

For starters, hurricanes are speedier than tornadoes. The minimum speed for a hurricane is 74 mph and the maximum speed between 155-200 mph; however for a tornado the minimum speed is 40 mph and the maximum speed between 250-300 mph. The duration for the hurricane is one week average, while, for a tornado it lasts mostly a few minutes, and some up to a few hours. The width of a hurricane is 300 miles, whereas that of a tornado is about 100-600 meters. The hurricane starts over warm oceans, but the tornado usually over land.

In conclusion, hurricanes are more dangerous than tornadoes because of their duration and width and they can cause a lot of damage.

Around the college

We are all students at Abu Dhabi Men's College.

We have to be in the classroom on time.

Physics and chemistry lessons take place in a laboratory.

There are no healthy food outlets in our canteen/cafeteria.

I read books and magazines and also do IELTS practice in our college library, which is large and well-stocked.

Student services organise activities for us.

The academic office performs many administrative tasks, such as issuing ID cards and arranging exam schedules.

There is a special learning centre in our library, called the Active Learning Zone, to provide students with extra help with their English.

Conferences and large meetings are often held in the college auditorium, which is also where we do our progress tests.
